Welcome to Vermont!

Whether you have just moved to the area, are thinking about relocating or returning to the Green Mountain State, or are new to interpreting in Vermont – we are glad you’re here!

The Vermont Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (VTRID) extends best wishes to you & your loved ones and wants to share some resources and tidbits about Vermont as you get settled in.  We hope they are helpful as you find your bearings.  Reach out to us at any time if you have questions or simply want to connect.  And know that we’d be delighted to have you at any of our VTRID membership meetings that happen each season in March, June, September, and December.

Tidbits about Vermont

  • Vermont gets its name from two French words – Vert + Mont (Green + Mountain).
  • Vermont was its very own country before it became the 14th state in 1791.
  • Geographically, Vermont is the sixth smallest state (July 1, 2021 population: 645,570).
  • Ben and Jerry’s ice cream began at a gas station in Burlington, Vermont.
  • Currently, Vermont has the nation’s highest cow-to-people ratio (1 cow to 3.8 people)
